Detroit. Chevrolet went big on Super Bowl XLVI Sunday with five new ads, developed for global roll-out, including a first-of-its-kind music video with the new Sonic/Aveo subcompact and the band OK Go.
The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States, culminating a season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year.
"The Super Bowl was a huge opportunity for Chevrolet to connect with millions of consumers – before, during and after the game – with our ads and digital extensions," said Joel Ewanick, global chief marketing officer, General Motors.
The Sonic, known as the Aveo in Europe, was featured in three of the five ads airing this weekend, with many of the new spots rolling out globally in the months to come. "We look forward to consumers first reactions on the new TV spots which we plan to air in Europe soon," said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.
In addition to the two ads for Sonic/Aveo and the music video, Chevrolet debuted one each for the Volt electric vehicle with extended range and the Silverado full-size pickup. Also shown during the telecast was the Chevrolet Route 66 Mofilm Contest winning ad "Chevy Happy Grad," created by 26-year old Long Island resident, Zach Borst.
Chevrolet Europe plans to air these TV spots:
The Sonic/Aveo Anthem ad:
The "Sonic Anthem" ad chronicles the car engaging in a series of jaw dropping stunts including a sky dive, bungee jump and skateboard-style kick flip (360-degree rotation in mid-air skateboard stunt), as well as footage of the Sonic/Aveo making its first music video with OK Go.
The Sonic/Aveo Joy ad:
The "Joy" ad demonstrates the thrilling Sonic/Aveo grille ride from the perspective of some unexpected and very animated arthropods, brought to life by the voice of Tony Award-nominee and four-time Emmy Award winner, Hank Azaria. A group of talking bugs congregate on the grill of a Sonic, eagerly anticipating their daily thrill-ride. Bug adrenaline and excitement flows as the Chevy Sonic takes to the road.
